Der Fuchs is the true story of Franz Streitberger, Adrian Goigingers’ great grandfather. At the beginning of World War 2 the introverted young soldier finds a wounded fox cub who he looks after like it was his own child and takes it to occupied France. Through this strange friendship with the animal his own past, from which he has always run away, slowly catches up with him.

Some years later, Narcissus chooses to continue living his life in prayer and meditation whereas Goldmund chooses a path away from the monastery to become an adventurer. A highly dramatic moment brings the friends together once more.
