The author of the 2023 edition of the traditional annual exhibition Critics Have Chosen – critics’ reception of contemporary visual art, continuously presented at the Art Gallery since 1967, is art historian  Gordana Stanišić  the winner of the Lazar Trifunović Award for 2020.

…In an era of increasing transparency of anything and everything, we are witnessing that the genealogy of fear triggers has been so expansive for many decades that we are left with no choice but to assess – in coexistence with the culture of fear, as with any phenomenon that contaminates us globally through permanent modalities and in the role of regular consumers and accomplices of this operational system –whether we ourselves are its powerful creators and controllers, (un)defeated victims of consequent traumas, hibernated, system-controlled consumers of illusions and hybrid prosperity, or we are, collectively, relics of a grey zone of civilizational structure and prisoners of a networked mechanism of spun normality.

Gordana Stanišić (Belgrade), an art historian based in; worked as a museum counsellor at the National Museum in Belgrade from 1989 to 2022. Since 1989, she has published reviews, studies and critiques on modern and contemporary art, as well as monographs and thematic publications. She is the author and a co-author of numerous exhibitions in SFR Yugoslavia, Serbia and abroad. For curated exhibitions in 1996 and 2016 she received the DIUS (Society of Art Historians of Serbia) Award and the Lazar Trifunović Award for Art Criticism in 2020. She is a member of the international association AICA.
