The Cultural Centre of Belgrade Movie Theatre prides being the one with the longest tradition of continuous activity. It was founded in 1963.
Good movies focused on art and authenticity, premieres, international festivals, thematic cycles, lectures, workshops, discussions with artists and film experts from country and abroad, press conferences, informative and carefully designed print and visual materials, all those features are immanent to the Centre’s movie program.
In the movie theatre foyer, a Film Gallery was opened in 2016 – an exhibition space dedicated to film and the exploration of links between film and visual art. The Cultural Centre of Belgrade was also the cradle of the Auteur Film Festival, and now it hosts and co-organizes some of the most relevant festivals in the country: FEST, Free Zone, Beldocs, the Auteur Film Festival… The Cultural Centre of Belgrade is also the initiator and the organizer of events and festivals that follow a specific concept: Spanish Cinema, GoetheFEST, Week of Nitrate Film, Days of Contemporary Danish Cinema…
In memory of Nebojša Popović, a long-term film coordinator at the Cultural Centre of Belgrade, who shaped up its program in 21st century, the Centre and 9 co-founders established the “Nebojša Popović” Prize in 2017, which is awarded for the promotion and critical thought in the field of film art and culture.
In 2006, the Cultural Centre of Belgrade Movie Theatre became a member of Europa Cinemas, a network of cinema theatres for the circulation of European Films.
